Quality Assurance Committee
To ensure quality, the Athenaeum relies on the activities carried out by the Athenaeum Quality Presidium (PQA).
The PQA supervises the appropriate and uniform implementation of QA procedures throughout the University, based on the guidelines of the governing bodies, with reference to teaching, research and technology transfer, and social impact. The Presidium supports the various structures in the implementation of the University guidelines and policies for QA and reports to the Governing Bodies on the results obtained.
The PQA ensures the exchange of information with the Evaluation Board and Anvur (National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System and Research), collects data for the monitoring of indicators, both qualitative and quantitative, taking care of the dissemination of the results. It activates every useful initiative to promote quality and the culture for quality within the University, also by means of information and training initiatives for the various actors of the QA system. It promotes self-assessment at the various levels and the ability to critically analyse the outcomes of QA processes.
The PQA, coordinated by Prof. Stefano Sibilla, includes - among others - Prof. Giuseppe De Nicolao (Director of the School of Advanced Doctoral Training) and Prof. Simone Gerzeli and Prof. Tommaso Piazza (respectively representatives of the Legal-Economic-Political and Humanities areas).
The Nucleo di Valutazione (Evaluation Board) of State Universities is also assigned the functions of Independent Evaluation Body (OIV) relating to the procedures for evaluating structures and personnel, in order to promote merit and the improvement of organisational and individual performance in Universities, in full autonomy and with its own organisational methods (Legislative Decree no. 150 of 27 October 2009).
While the PQA implements the control and verification (monitoring) actions and the implementation of QA, the NdV defines the general methodology and evaluates the overall QA of the University (also through hearings).
As of A.Y. 2022-2023 the Board of Lecturers appoints a Quality Assurance Group.
The Doctoral Quality Assurance Group, the SAFD and the University Quality Presidium (PQA), each for its own field of competence, take care of the definition and assessment of criteria and indicators, promote the activation of monitoring, self-evaluation and assessment systems, with particular reference to:
a) the overall functioning of the Doctorate;
b) the level of internationalisation
c) the training of doctoral students
d) the research activities of the doctoral candidates;
e) employment outcomes;
f) the number of additional scholarships activated through agreements or obtained thanks to participation in regional, national or international competitive calls.
The QA Group assists the Co-ordinator in planning the activities pertaining to the doctoral course, monitors the research, teaching and third mission activities and the social impact of the doctoral students, analyses the questionnaires of the doctoral students and PhD students and, on the basis of the data collected, proposes and monitors any improvement actions. It draws up an annual report on doctoral planning, management and training, which is discussed by the Teachers' Board.
According to Art. 4 of the Rules of the Doctoral Program in History of 25 July 2024, the QA Group is appointed by the College on the proposal of the Coordinator, is chaired by the Coordinator or the Deputy Coordinator, at least four members of the College and at least one doctoral student.
