Centro Interdipartimentale di Studi e Ricerche sui Sistemi di Istruzione Superiore

The Interdepartmental Research Center for Studies and Research on Higher Education Systems is a research unit of the University of Pavia, formed by the Departments of Mathematics “F. Casorati, Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology ”L. Spallanzani,” Molecular Medicine, Clinical-Surgical, Diagnostic and Pediatric Sciences, Industrial and Information Engineering, Economic and Business Sciences, and Political and Social Sciences, to develop comparative research on higher education systems and their connections with scientific research systems, with particular, but not exclusive, reference to European Union countries.
Established in 2002, CIRSIS has promoted or participated in numerous national and
international and edited a Series entitled “Studies on Higher Education” at Edizioni
LED of Milan (https://www.ledonline.it/CIRSIS/index.html?/CIRSIS/home.shtml).
In recent years, the Center's main research commitments have focused on the following topics: the third mission of Italian universities, digitization of academic work and teaching innovation, relations between science and society, graduate work, research and innovation collaboration between universities and businesses, citizen behaviors and attitudes in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, changes in the academic profession and student life.
The Center is part of UNIRES - Italian Centre for Research on Universities and Higher Education Systems (https://unires.unimi.it/) and collaborates with national institutions such as MHEO - Milan Higher Education Observatory (MHEO; https://mheo.unimi.it/) - and international ones such as CHER - Consortium of Higher Education Researchers (https://cher-highered.org/).
