Centro Interdipartimentale di ricerca e documentazione sulla storia del Novecento
The Interdepartmental Center for Research and Documentation on the History of the Twentieth Century was established in 1998 on the initiative of professors and researchers who are members of the Departments of Political Economy and Quantitative Methods, History-Geography, Political and Social Studies, and the Institute of Statistics at the University of Pavia. Its bylaws were amended a first time in March 2002 and then in 2005, both to allow the entrance of the Departments of Legal Studies and Roman Law and to conform to the new regulations issued by the Governing Bodies of the University of Pavia. To achieve its aims, the Center collects and makes available to teachers, researchers, students, and scholars archival, bibliographic and documentary material of all kinds concerning its field of study, with particular reference to the history of the University of Pavia, local political history, the history of the Resistance, and the political and social aspects of the process of European integration. The Center has entered into agreements with the Pavia Provincial Administration, the Municipality of Pavia, the Historical Institute for the Resistance and Contemporary Age of the Province of Pavia, and finally with the Mario Albertini Center for Historical Studies on Federalism and European Unification. The same has been the promoter, together with the Center for the History of the University of Pavia, of the establishment of the Historical Archives of the University of Pavia, which has enabled, thanks to fundamental contributions from the Cariplo Foundation, the Banca del Monte Foundation and the non-profit Community Foundation of the Province of Pavia, the recovery and making available of documentary material of extraordinary importance for the history of the University, but also for local, national and international scientific, political and economic history (Gli archivi storici delle Università italiane e il caso pavese, edited by Simona Negruzzo and Fabio Zucca, Pavia, Nuova tipografia popolare, 2001). In 2009 CIRDS '900 was recognized, together with the Universities of Padua and Genoa, by the European Union as a European Pole of Excellence for the Jean Monnet Action for the five-year period 2009-2014.
